In 2024, Trengo introduced a conversation-based pricing model. This new model caused dissatisfaction among many customers, as ongoing costs can quickly rise with higher message volumes.

The Boost Plan includes 6,000 conversations per year (500 per month), while the Pro Plan includes 18,000 conversations (1,500 per month). For every additional 100 conversations, Trengo charges an extra 15 euros on an annual contract, and every conversation handled by AI carries a surcharge of 0.25 euros.

Especially as message volume grows, these additional costs can add up significantly. The fees for WhatsApp Business messages, which apply on top of this, are not included in the calculation for either provider.

Example 1: Costs for 500 AI conversations per month

Below, we calculate the costs when an AI agent handles 500 customer requests per month with three replies each, sending 1,500 AI replies in total.

Superchat costs:

• Professional plan: €129
• 1,500 AI replies at around 8 credits each = 12,000 credits, of which 7,000 credits are included
• 5,000 additional credits: 2 x €10 = €20

For freelancers and small teams who mainly need a shared inbox, Superchat’s Basic plan is enough. At Trengo, the Boost plan is the cheapest plan available.

Pricing transparency: what to watch out for at Trengo

Trengo now publishes its prices on its website. However, many costs depend on usage: every conversation above the included volume costs extra, conversations handled by AI carry a surcharge, and features such as broadcasts or voice calls are only available as paid add-ons. This makes monthly costs hard to plan.

In contrast, Superchat lists all prices transparently, and conversations are unlimited at no extra cost from the Basic plan upwards.

Even when it comes to messaging features, Superchat clearly leads. While Superchat allows personalized WhatsApp newsletters and advanced automations, these features are only rudimentarily available at Trengo.
