ChatWerk: Is There a Better Alternative?
ChatWerk is a messaging solution from Nuremberg that has been on the market since 2021 and, according to the company, serves over 3,000 businesses. But is ChatWerk really the best choice? In this article, we compare ChatWerk with Superchat to help you make an informed decision. Superchat already serves more than 11,000 customers.
At first glance, both platforms look similar, but a closer look reveals clear differences in features and costs. The most important one: ChatWerk adds a 10% service fee to every WhatsApp fee charged by Meta. Superchat passes Meta's fees through 1:1 and even gives you a monthly bonus credit to cover them.
Below, we first look at features and AI, then at customer satisfaction, and finally at the costs in detail.
Note: All information is based on publicly available information from both providers (as of October 2026) and is updated regularly.

For every WhatsApp conversation started by a business, ChatWerk charges Meta's fees plus a 10% service fee, on top of a one-time setup fee equal to the package price. With Superchat, you pay no service fee and no setup fee, and you get a monthly bonus credit for WhatsApp fees: €20 on Basic, €50 on Professional and €80 on Advanced.

When comparing the table, four points stand out:
1. ChatWerk charges a 10% service fee and a setup fee
ChatWerk adds 10% to every WhatsApp fee charged by Meta. The more newsletters, reminders and campaigns you send, the more expensive it gets. On top of that, there's a one-time setup fee which, according to ChatWerk, equals the booked package price. Superchat passes Meta's fees through 1:1, charges no setup fee and credits you a monthly bonus for WhatsApp fees. We calculate what that adds up to below.
2. ChatWerk's AI only answers, Superchat's AI takes action
ChatWerk offers an AI FAQ bot (beta) as an add-on for €49 per month with 1,000 AI requests. It answers frequently asked questions and is set up by ChatWerk's support team. ChatWerk lists AI agents only in its Enterprise plan, on request. With Superchat, an AI agent is included from the Professional plan; you set it up yourself, and it also takes action.
3. ChatWerk offers no AI phone assistant and no email
ChatWerk focuses on messengers. Email can't be connected, and for phone there are only WhatsApp voice calls for your team as an add-on (price on request). Superchat brings WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, live chat, email, SMS and phone together in one inbox, including an AI phone assistant from the Professional plan.
4. ChatWerk offers no review management
With ChatWerk, you can ask for a review via a chatflow, but you can't manage or reply to Google reviews there. Superchat includes full review management from the Basic plan, letting you request and manage reviews.
AI agent and phone
At Superchat, the AI agent is included from the Professional plan and works across chat, email and phone. It updates contact data, writes internal notes, sends WhatsApp templates and interactive buttons, and hands over to your team when needed. Via HTTP requests or MCP, it connects to CRMs, calendars and booking systems, for example to book appointments or create tickets.
ChatWerk's AI FAQ bot answers questions based on your website and optional files. According to the public information, it isn't designed to take actions in external systems, and every request uses one of 1,000 monthly tokens. Another 1,000 cost €19.
Data security
Both providers host their data in Frankfurt and advertise GDPR compliance. Superchat is also ISO 27001 certified and does not use your data to train AI models (security at Superchat). ChatWerk does not publicly state an ISO 27001 certification.
Customer Satisfaction Comparison
Superchat has many times more reviews on all three platforms:
| Platform | Superchat | ChatWerk |
|---|---|---|
| ⭐ 4.8 (774 reviews) | ⭐ 4.9 (75 reviews) | |
| Capterra | ⭐ 4.8 (316 reviews) | ⭐ 4.3 (45 reviews) |
| OMR Reviews | ⭐ 4.7 (343 reviews) | ⭐ 4.2 (33 reviews) |
On Capterra and OMR Reviews, Superchat is rated significantly higher. On Google, both are almost level, but Superchat has ten times as many reviews.

Pricing comparison: what ChatWerk really costs
When comparing prices, it's not just the monthly fees that count but also the service fee, setup and add-ons. All prices are net per month with annual billing.
| Annual subscription | ChatWerk | Superchat |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Free: without WhatsApp, 1 user, 100 contacts | Free: with WhatsApp, 1 user, 30 active contacts |
| Entry plan | Starter (€69): WhatsApp only, 1 number, 3 users | Basic (€79): all channels, 3 users, 2 automations, review management, €20 bonus |
| Mid-tier plan | Basic (€85): all messengers except email, 10 users | Professional (€129): 6 users, AI agent, AI phone assistant, 6 automations, 2 numbers, €50 bonus |
| Advanced plan | Premium (€129): 30 users, 3 numbers, chatflow builder | Advanced (€249): 12 users, 3 AI agents, 4 numbers, integrations included, €80 bonus |
| Large plan | Supreme (€249): 50 users, 5 numbers | Custom (on request) |
| Meta fees | +10% service fee | 1:1, no markup |
| Setup | One-time, equal to the package price | Free |
| AI | AI FAQ bot: €49 per month (add-on) | AI agent included from Professional |
The 10% service fee: the hidden cost driver
With WhatsApp, you pay Meta a fee for every conversation your business starts, for example for newsletters, appointment reminders or offers. ChatWerk adds 10% to these fees. Superchat doesn't, and also deducts a monthly bonus credit from your Meta fees.
Here's the impact with Superchat's Professional plan (€50 bonus):
| Meta fees per month | ChatWerk (incl. 10% fee) | Superchat (minus €50 bonus) | Savings per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| €200 | €220 | €150 | €840 |
| €500 | €550 | €450 | €1,200 |
| €1,000 | €1,100 | €950 | €1,800 |
The more you use WhatsApp for marketing, the bigger the gap, because the service fee grows with every message.
Example calculation: a team with AI and newsletters
A team sends WhatsApp newsletters, answers frequent questions with AI and pays €500 in Meta fees per month.
ChatWerk Premium:
- Premium plan: €129
- AI FAQ bot: €49
- 10% service fee on €500: €50
- Meta fees: €500
- Total: €728 per month, plus a one-time setup fee of €129
Superchat Professional:
- Professional plan including AI agent: €129
- Meta fees: €500
- Bonus credit: −€50
- Total: €579 per month, no setup fee
Result: With Superchat, you save €149 per month, or €1,917 in the first year including the setup fee. On top of that, you get an AI agent that takes action and handles calls instead of an FAQ bot. With very high AI volumes, additional credits may apply at Superchat (2,500 credits for €10).
Where ChatWerk scores
To be fair: ChatWerk includes more user seats per plan, and each additional user costs only €5. If many team members just answer WhatsApp chats, without AI and with little marketing, ChatWerk can be cheaper. As soon as you use WhatsApp for newsletters and campaigns, the service fee quickly eats up that advantage.
All Superchat prices and add-ons are transparently listed.
The Advantages of Superchat
Superchat is the right solution for all companies that:
- don't want to pay a 10% service fee on WhatsApp fees and would rather get a monthly bonus credit
- prefer a transparent pricing structure without setup fees
- want an AI agent that works across chat, email and phone and takes action
- want to bring email, SMS and phone together with their messengers in one inbox
- want to use full review management
- rely on an ISO 27001 certified platform hosted in Frankfurt
- want to join more than 11,000 customers
Conclusion: Superchat offers more features without hidden fees
ChatWerk is a solid option if your main goal is answering WhatsApp chats as a team. But the 10% service fee on every Meta fee, the setup fee and AI as an add-on make ChatWerk more expensive than its package price suggests. This adds up quickly, especially with WhatsApp marketing.
With Superchat, you pay Meta's fees 1:1, get a monthly bonus credit, and from the Professional plan an AI agent that doesn't just answer but takes action. Email, SMS, phone and review management are all part of the same platform.
